Interdex:Standards

From Interdex, the community-edited guide to the local internet.

As this is an encyclopedic wiki, there are a few easy guidelines for editing.

Contents

[edit] Does it need an article?

If something isn't really relevant to the local internet, you don't need to make an article about it. If you still need to link to more information about something, you can link to a Wikipedia page like [[w:Article|Link text]] or an Encyclopedia Dramatica page like [[ed:Article|Link text]].

Don't make an article for something just because it's an item in a list. Make an article if its subject is notable, relevant, or highly entertaining.

[edit] Spell things correctly

Refer to http://www.dictionary.com/ if you aren't sure how to spell something. Avoid mixing up "its" and "it's", "your" and "you're", etc. "Rediculous" is not a word.

[edit] Article title capitalization

Articles are no longer required to begin with capital letters, so we can have technically correct titles like aNGeL and absforums.net. Articles should only begin with a lowercase letter if they're about a subject with an actual name that begins with a lowercase letter, like jski or cythrawll, or if they're about a general topic without a proper name such as local internet.

[edit] Categories

If there are two or more people from a certain location, go ahead and put them in a "People from wherever" category. Otherwise, just leave them in Category:People. Try to avoid redundancy when dealing with categories.

[edit] External links and quotes

External links and quotes should go in their own subsections, formatted == Like this ==. "External links" does not need to be fully capitalized. Any links or quotes should be bulleted with an asterisk like this:

Quotes should be bulleted with an asterisk if they're only one paragraph long. Further paragraphs can be indented without a bullet using a colon. Italicize all of it. Example:

  • Has anyone adopted any n00bs lately?
Anyone?

[edit] Page title bolded at beginning

The title should be stated at the beginning of the article in '''bold'''. Example:

George W. Bush is the 43rd president of the United States.

[edit] Stubs

If you're creating an article that needs to be expanded, put the {{short}} template at the bottom of the article. It will automatically be added to Category:Stubs, and removed from the category once the template is removed from the article.

[edit] Article commentary

Questions, comments, and discussion of an article belong on its Talk: page. If you're replying to someone, make this clear by using the indentation markup (a colon at the start of the line, or multiple colons). And make sure to sign your name with --~~~~ by clicking the second-to-right button above the edit box.

[edit] Minor edits

If an edit doesn't change the meaning or content of an article then check the "This is a minor edit" box above the Save Page button. Minor edits can be spelling corrections, changes in sentence or paragraph structure, or anything else which probably doesn't need to be reviewed by someone else for accuracy.
