4chan is a an English language imageboard based off of a concept that originated in Japan. Fags like to take image macros and catch-phrases from 4chan and post them in places which are not 4chan (See: Johnnyrotten). The site and it's users are often looked down upon by most non-4chan goers. Many sites have been created which mirror 4chan's software and style. Although 4chan is not part of the local internet, it is considered a major influence.
