2004 was an eventful year for the local internet, with several splinter communities forming and ABS experiencing its first takeover.

• March 16 - mtxchimera is removed from LCIRC and the ABS Forums.

• April 28 - rmuser creates EMPTV.

• May 6 - #emptv moves to LuniticFringe.
• May 9 - AB blocks ImageShack from the ABS Forums.

• June 5 - rmuser creates a service to unblock ImageShack URLs from ABS.
• June 12 - rmuser creates Framework based on concepts outlined after he left ABS two days earlier.

• August 22 - Overlord_45 initiates the August 22, 2004 ABS Forums takeover, causing dozens of ABS members to come to #emptv.
• August 24 - Prog tells everyone his fictional life story in #prog-life.

• November 13 - Framework is renamed to 17chan and moves to 17chan.net.

• mtxchimera creates the LuniticFringe IRC network.
• LuniticFringe merges with MegaCityOne.
